Ice fishing, fire and sauna in the Levi wilderness
Leave Levi by private vehicle for a quieter winter setting beyond the resort, where the day is built around three Finnish traditions rather than a sequence of short safari stops. After a drive of around 30–40 minutes, your private guide leads an ice-fishing session on a frozen lake, showing you how to drill the hole, use the equipment and settle into the slower rhythm of fishing on the ice. No previous experience is required, and all fishing equipment is provided.
Afterwards, the pace shifts from the lake to the fire. Lunch is prepared around local fish, with a suggested menu of flame-grilled Arctic char or salmon, potatoes, seasonal salad, local bread, berry drink, coffee or tea and a small dessert. If the catch and conditions allow, freshly caught fish may also be prepared. This is a substantial fireside meal rather than the simple snack commonly included on shorter winter safaris, giving the middle of the day time to feel warm and unhurried.
The final part of the experience is devoted to a traditional wood-heated smoke sauna prepared for the session. Towels and basic sauna amenities are included, and guests may add an ice-hole or cold-water dip where the selected venue and safety conditions permit. The plunge is always optional. Private transport and guiding continue throughout the programme, with drop-off back at the guests’ preferred location in Levi or Sirkka. The exact lake, sauna venue and activity order may change with ice, weather and operational conditions.
