An outing with huskies in Nuuksio
Nuuksio is close to Helsinki, but it does not feel like an extension of the city. The trails move through forest, lakes, moss, rock, and the kind of quiet that makes people suddenly aware of how loud their normal day is. This hike is built around that slower rhythm: walking through the national park with Siberian huskies, guided by people who know both the dogs and the landscape.
The route is usually around 4–7 kilometres, depending on conditions and the group. You walk with the huskies through forest paths, stopping when needed and letting the pace stay comfortable rather than heroic. This is not a race, and nobody needs to pretend they are training for an Arctic expedition after breakfast. Along the way, your guide shares stories about Finnish nature, local outdoor traditions, and the bond between people and sled dogs.
Halfway through the hike, the group stops by a lake or a sheltered forest spot for a campfire break. Your guide prepares Finnish sausages, pastries, and hot drinks, including traditional campfire coffee when available. It is a simple pause: smoke from the fire, dogs resting nearby, warm food in your hands, and forest on all sides. The experience works well for travellers who want animals, nature, and fresh air without the intensity of a full adventure programme.
