At a glance

  • Two nights at The Burman in Tallinn's Old Town
  • Private dinner aboard a 1914 steam icebreaker
  • Old Town and Toompea with your own guide
  • A two-MICHELIN-star tasting menu by the sea

Tallinn is two hours across the water from Helsinki, and its walled Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most complete medieval trading towns in northern Europe. This private Tallinn escape adds it to your time in Finland without a flight: we drive you to the harbour, you cross in the ship's business lounge, and a car is waiting when you step ashore.

The first evening belongs to the sea. At the Seaplane Harbour, in its historic seaplane hangars, a private guide takes you aboard the submarine Lembit and the steam icebreaker Suur Tõll, where the officers' mess is laid for dinner for the two of you.

The next day is for the town itself: a morning in the Old Town and up on Toompea with your own guide, an afternoon at Kadriorg Palace and KUMU, and dinner at a two-MICHELIN-star restaurant in the Noblessner harbour district. On the last morning you see the former KGB prison cells before the afternoon ferry back to Helsinki, or a car to Tallinn Airport if you are flying home from there.

Journeys start on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, when the museums and the restaurant on the route are open. From late November to early January the Christmas market fills Town Hall Square and your Old Town walk passes through it; December days are short, so the guided walk is planned for the morning. In summer the evenings stay light and the Old Town is quietest early in the day.

If you would rather fly, a private helicopter can take you across in about 25 minutes, on request. In Tallinn a private car takes you to your hotel in the Old Town. In the late afternoon your guide meets you at the Seaplane Harbour for a private visit to the submarine Lembit and the icebreaker Suur Tõll, and the evening ends with dinner for two in the icebreaker's officers' mess.

Day 2 - Medieval Tallinn, Kadriorg and a two-star dinner

In the morning your guide walks you through the Old Town and up to Toompea, the upper town, with its cathedrals and viewing platforms over the red roofs, then down through the town walls to Town Hall Square. In the afternoon a car and driver take you to Kadriorg Palace, the baroque palace built for Peter the Great, and to KUMU, the main building of the Art Museum of Estonia, each with a museum guide. In the evening you are driven to the Noblessner harbour for a tasting menu with wine pairing at a two-MICHELIN-star restaurant.

Day 3 - The KGB cells and back to Helsinki

After a slow breakfast, a private guide takes you into the cells of the former KGB headquarters on Pagari Street, where people were held and interrogated in the Soviet era. The rest of the morning is free for a last walk through the Old Town. In the afternoon a private car takes you to the harbour for the crossing back to Helsinki, where our driver meets you and takes you to your hotel or to Helsinki Airport. If you are flying home from Tallinn, we take you to Tallinn Airport instead.

  • Private visit to the former KGB prison cells
  • Private transfer from your hotel to Tallinn harbour
  • Ferry crossing to Helsinki in the business lounge, about 2 hours
  • Private transfer to your Helsinki hotel or Helsinki Airport
  • Or, instead of the ferry, a private transfer to Tallinn Airport
  • Upgrade on request: a private helicopter to Helsinki instead of the ferry, about 25 minutes in the air
