A ten-day journey through Finnish sauna culture, moving from Helsinki’s seafront and traditional countryside rituals to an underground smoke sauna, a sauna boat and two slower nights beside Lake Saimaa.
Year-round
10 days / 9 nights
Helsinki → Sipoo → Kemiönsaari → Tampere region → Lake Saimaa → Helsinki — Finland
Private & comfortably paced
This ten-day Finland sauna tour follows the tradition through several very different settings rather than repeating the same experience each day. Helsinki provides an easy introduction, combining a guided look at the capital with seafront sauna culture before the route moves into the countryside for a more traditional ceremony in Sipoo.
The character changes again on Kemiönsaari, where the group stays overnight and has private use of a distinctive underground smoke sauna built among granite and forest. From there, the journey continues towards the Tampere region, adding a slower country-hotel base and a private sauna boat cruise on the lake. The final inland chapter is beside Lake Saimaa, with two nights at Järvisydän, time for nature and a private lakeside sauna session.
Four Helsinki nights bookend the route, while the middle of the journey uses three smaller bases to keep each sauna experience connected to its landscape rather than turning the programme into a sequence of day trips. Private airport transfers are included at the beginning and end. Intercity transport is set out in your proposal.
The route works particularly well for private groups travelling together, including friends, associations and special-interest groups. The route was designed for 6–12 participants, and an adapted version for couples can also be arranged.
The first day is deliberately simple after the flight. Arrive in Helsinki, transfer privately to your central hotel and leave enough time to settle in before meeting for dinner. The journey begins socially, but without adding sightseeing to an arrival day.
Begin with a relaxed introduction to Helsinki before moving from the city into one of its most recognisable expressions of contemporary sauna culture. The day establishes the relationship between city life, the Baltic shoreline and sauna without becoming an overfilled sightseeing programme.
Löyly offers both wood-fired and smoke saunas, mixed sauna areas and direct sea access. Our guide to the best saunas in Helsinki explains how it compares with the city's other public saunas.

Leave Helsinki for the countryside and experience a more ritual-led interpretation of sauna. A local sauna practitioner introduces the traditions, materials and rhythm of the session before there is time to cool down and return to the city for an unstructured evening.

The route now leaves Helsinki behind and travels southwest to Kemiönsaari. After settling into the countryside accommodation, the focus is an entirely different sauna environment: a private smoke-sauna session among granite, timber, forest and flowing water.

This is primarily a transition day, allowing the journey to move north-east without forcing another major sauna session into the schedule. There is time for an introduction to the Tampere area and lunch before settling into the next country-hotel base.
The Tampere chapter centres on water. Transfer to the departure point for approximately three hours aboard a private sauna boat, allowing the group to alternate naturally between sauna, time on deck and the lake landscape.

After several active sauna days, the journey east is deliberately softer. Travel to the Lake Saimaa region with breaks along the way, settle into the villa accommodation at Järvisydän and leave the rest of the day unscheduled.

The final full sauna day combines light movement with plenty of recovery time. Begin with a guided walk adapted to the group, pause for lunch and rest, then gather again beside Lake Saimaa for approximately two hours of private sauna time.

Return to the capital after breakfast, with breaks keeping the final road journey comfortable. Once in Helsinki, the afternoon remains intentionally free before the group comes together once more for dinner.
The final morning is kept clear so departure can be organised around the confirmed flight rather than an artificial last activity. Check out and transfer privately to Helsinki Airport.
The journey begins and ends in central Helsinki, with four nights in total at a carefully selected 5-star hotel. The property and room category are chosen around the group’s requirements. Breakfast is included daily.
Spend one night in villa accommodation at Storfinnhova on Kemiönsaari, close to the private underground smoke sauna, before continuing to Tampere for two nights. In Tampere, accommodation can be arranged in a well-located city hotel or a distinctive private apartment, chosen around the group size and preferred style.
Spend two nights in the Lake Saimaa region. This quieter lakeside base gives the journey a slower final chapter, with time for nature, optional spa access and the private lakeside sauna experience before returning to Helsinki.
